Week 2: One Room Challenge

Posted April 08, 2015 by Christina

So our project has progressed a bit and it has changed a lot.  When I started this I knew that we needed a pick me up for this room and had a fairly small budget in mind but as I said things always seem to grow when I do projects in my own home.  There were a few places where I was struggling for inspiration in here and the sink was a big one.  Our old sink was a plastic, dirty thing that we rarely used.  The space that it was set in was quite wide though at 41" so I would need a new cabinet built and a new sink and faucet installed.  I was stuck so I started to run through photos on without much luck, do you know how many terrible laundry room photos are on there- WOW!  I finally came across a couple of spaces that I really liked.  The image below was the keeper-  exactly the sink that I wanted- now the trick was to find a that would fit in my space.

After much searching I found a perfect fit - ordered it we were all set.  The flooring and stone was ordered and ready to go.  I decided to go with in 12 x 12" tiles and have it cut to 6 x 12" tiles to be laid in a herring bone pattern.

I picked a prefab counter out of Carrera Marble and matching Herringbone 1 x 2" herringbone back splash tiles.

The guys had come and cleared out the old flooring, cabinets and sink within just a few hours.

But as we sat and looked at the space we realized that we wanted a little more room in there and we could steal that extra room from my husbands office space by moving a wall.  We decided to remove the wall and relocate the washer and dryer to the sink wall and the sink to the original location for the washer and dryer.  My small project just became much much larger and time consuming with drywall work, electrical changes and plumbing relocations.  Looking forward to sharing more on that next week!  As always you can keep up with me on .

I am excited to see what everyone else has gotten up to with their projects.. Take a minute to check them out!
